Located in northern Sonoma, where the Alexander, Dry Creek, and Russian River valleys come together, Stuhlmuller Vineyard is a 150-acre vineyard property that occupies a unique place in the county’s viticulture. Formed during thousands of years of alluvial fan movement and flooding, the terrain is comprised of ancient gravel, clay, and volcanic soils which, along with the area’s distinctive microclimate, provide an ideal environment for growing world-class Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel fruit with a signature mineral quality, good acidity and complex flavors.

Roger and Carmen Stuhlmuller acquired the property in 1982 and, over the years, meticulously developed it and established a reputation as growers of world-class grapes. Their son Fritz was so inspired by the complex, expressive wines being made from his family’s vineyard that in 1996, he launched a small winery bearing the Stuhlmuller name. By 2000, he had achieved his goal of turning this into an estate winery by converting an historic barn on the property into a winemaking facility designed specifically for the fermentation of small lots of fruit. Guided by gifted winemaker Leo Hansen, Stuhlmuller Vineyards handcrafts, small-lot wines that embody a rich, expressive charm, and a distinctive sense of place.
