In 1990, San Francisco attorney Bill Nachbaur traded in his law books for books on viticulture, pruning shears, and a tractor when he and his wife Betsy purchased Alegría Vineyards, a small parcel in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County with vines dating back to the 1890s. Bill revived and then expanded the vineyard, following the ancient tradition of co-planting multiple varietals in each parcel. Soon, the quality and distinct profile of the Alegría fruit grew demand from prestigious wineries throughout California.

It wasn’t long before Betsy abandoned her career and joined Bill full time and, in 1994, they decided to produce their own wines under the Acorn label. Given their tiny size and setting amidst a circle of tall oaks, and since it is a symbol of prosperity, potential and good fortune, “acorn” seemed the perfect name!

Today, the vineyard has grown to 26 acres and the Nachbaurs produce a total of 3,000 cases comprised of 7 different “field blend” wines from their special estate. Their distinct quality, complexity and profile are attested to by the high acclaim and multiple awards they have accrued over the years.
