The genesis of Anaba began in 2003 when San Francisco businessman John Sweazey found the ideal property to allow him to fulfill his long-held desire to build a world-class winery. Nestled in the Western Carneros Region of Sonoma, where cool “anabatic” winds temper the summer heat, the setting was ideal to support cultivation of the Rhône and Burgundian varietals he had come to love over his years of research, study and exploration of France’s winemaking regions.
In shaping Anaba, John has focused on building a quality team and creating an environment where people are excited about their work and equally passionate about wine. Living proof of this is his talented young winemaker, Jennifer Marion, who believes the art of winemaking finds its soul in the vineyard. Early in her career, Jennifer learned the importance of meticulous viticultural practices and, over time, has applied the same high standards in the making of wine. At Anaba, in addition to overseeing both winemaking and estate vineyard operations, she works hand-in-hand with other esteemed Sonoma County growers who supply their fruit.
The results speak for themselves in a glass of Anaba wine and, judging from the high critical acclaim the winery has received in its short life, John’s dream is indeed coming true!
